Introduction

In today’s fast-paced engineering world, keeping technical documentation up to date and aligned with industry standards is crucial. Our team recently completed a project that involved the migration and full restoration of 3D models for a rail vehicle, moving from SolidWorks to 3DExperience. The initiative not only modernized the digital environment but also streamlined production processes and ensured compliance with strict railroad industry standards.

Work Scope

The scope of the project included:

  • Migration of 3D models of a rail vehicle from SolidWorks to 3DExperience.
  • Recreation of parametric 3D models based on provided STEP files.
  • Development of detailed drawings for bent sheet metal parts, milled parts, and installation (welding) drawings.
  • Specific focus on creating accurate documentation for both the cab and rail cars.
  • Execution of the project in full alignment with the client’s internal standards and applicable railroad industry standards.

Results

The project successfully delivered:

  • A full restoration of 3D models in 3DExperience.
  • Comprehensive and standardized technical documentation.
  • A streamlined workflow that improved production efficiency.
  • Full compliance with both internal and industry standards, ensuring long-term reliability.

Conclusion

By migrating legacy designs into 3DExperience and rebuilding technical documentation from the ground up, we enabled our client to modernize their design environment, reduce risks during production, and maintain strict adherence to industry regulations.

This case study highlights how our expertise in CAD migration and documentation development can help businesses in highly regulated industries transition smoothly to modern platforms—without compromising quality or compliance.
